December 10, Nobel Prize Day

Back to overview

Today, on December 10, it is the Nobel Prize Day, where award ceremonies will take place to award the Nobel Prize winners. The Nobel Prize is awarded to ‘those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind’ and the prize is considered the most prestigious award in the world in its field. Since 1901, prizes have been awarded in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine. Literature and peace have been awarded since 1901, and economic sciences since 1968.

Due to the current situation, Nobel Week is staged as a digital event, where award ceremonies and lectures will be held online since the usual banquets in Stockholm and Oslo are canceled. Additionally, Stadshuset Nobel Week Lights takes place in Stockholm for the second year during the Nobel Week. Inspired by Nobel Prize-awarded discoveries and laureates, stunning artworks will light up the darkness this December. In the picture, we see “EARTH FROM SPACE”, by the artist Andreas Skärberg.
