Back to overview
The Riksdag opened again on Tuesday 9 September. The opening marks the start of the new working year, the 2025/26 Riksdag session, for both the Riksdag and its 349 members.
The Riksdag session opens each year in September. Until 1974, the ceremony was traditionally held at the Royal Palace. Following the adoption of the 1974 Instrument of Government, the opening has since taken place in the Riksdag building. With its deep historical roots, the opening of the Riksdag session holds a distinct ceremonial significance within modern Swedish democracy.
