OFFICE CLOSED DUE TO SWEDISH MIDSUMMER ON JUNE 24, 2022

Back to overview

On June 24, the Swedish Chamber office will be closed due to the Swedish Midsummer.

Flower wreaths, dancing around a maypole and a sun that never sets. Swedes call it Midsummer.

Swedes are fairly well attuned to the rhythms of nature. At Midsummer, many start their five-week or so, annual holidays. During this relatively short summer season, everyone is in a hurry to get things done. Midsummer Eve is usually celebrated on the countryside, and therefore everyone usually leaves town, everything closes and the city streets are suddenly spookily deserted on the day before.

Swedes prefer the world to be well-ordered, so Midsummer Eve is always on a Friday between June 19, and June 25. People often start off the day by picking flowers and making flower wreaths to place on the maypole, which is a key component in the Midsummer celebrations. Read more about Midsummer here.
