The anticipation continues as we celebrate the latest recipients of the prestigious Nobel Prizes!
In a year filled with groundbreaking discoveries, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded as follows:
One half to David Baker “for computational protein design.” His pioneering work has mastered life’s building blocks, allowing for the creation of entirely new proteins.
The other half is jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.” Their innovative use of artificial intelligence has enabled the prediction of the structures of almost all known proteins.
Interestingly, chemistry was of paramount importance to Alfred Nobel himself, as it underpinned both the development of his inventions and the industrial processes he championed. In fact, chemistry was the second prize category Nobel specifically mentioned in his will.
