Alumni and Student Evening with the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg

Back to overview

On May 21, the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg will host an evening mingle in Amsterdam for the first time, organised in collaboration with the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands and Svalner Atlas. Alumni from the School and prospective students will gather at Svalner Atlas to learn more about the company and the research and education at the School.

“I am delighted that this event is being organised in collaboration with the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands and Svalner Atlas. The Netherlands is an important country for our School — home to many of our valued alumni and a key location for student and staff exchange, recruitment, and career opportunities. I hope this marks the beginning of many fruitful collaborations in the years to come,” says Måns Söderbom, Dean of the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

During the alumni evening, Roelof Gerritsen, partner, deputy CEO and co-founder of Svalner Atlas and Henrik Timén, Managing Director at Svalner Atlas in Gothenburg, will talk about the company’s operations. Conny Overland, Assistant Professor at the School of Business, Economics and Law, will also participate. His research interests are broad, with much of his work focusing on corporate governance. Conny Overland is also the coordinator for the MSc programme in Accounting and Financial Management.

The Netherlands is a target market for the School when it comes to student recruitment, both for undergraduate and master’s programmes. In recent years, the School has received around 60-70 applications from interested students.

The School offers Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Swedish and English, as well as single subject courses. There is also an Executive MBA programme. The Erasmus exchange semester is available for students.

Trainees at the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands
Since 2022, students and recent alumni from the School have had the opportunity to undertake a one-year internship as International Management Trainees at the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands, thanks to a scholarship from the Göteborgs Handelshögskolefonds Stipendiestiftelse (one of the School’s endowment foundations). The trainee period provides the intern with a valuable opportunity to expand their professional network, gives solid international experience and has the potential to open new, exciting doors for the future.

The present trainee is Justin Rundcrantz, who is the recipient of the School’s scholarship for the period 2024/2025.

More than a century of scientific curiosity
The School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg was established in 1923 at the initiative of politicians and representatives of the business community in the city. Many of the School’s early characteristics are still relevant today and form the School’s fundamental DNA: close collaboration with the surrounding society, a multidisciplinary approach and a clear international perspective.

The School comprises four departments: Business Administration, Economics, Law and Economy & Society (including Economic History, Human Geography and Innovation and Entrepreneurship). This disciplinary breadth is considered one of the School’s many strengths. The School also hosts a number of research centres and other units, such as the Centre for Finance.

Sustainability is built into the core
Sustainability is a natural element of the activities conducted at the School and has been embedded in both regulations and practical work for many years. Research activities include a number of strong research environments and relate to all the global goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The students of today are the decision-makers of tomorrow. The School’s strategic objective is to provide all its students with the knowledge and tools they need to meet sustainability challenges in their future careers and to make important contributions to a sustainable society. Sustainability became an integral part of first-cycle programmes as early as 2013 and is now included at all levels.

”Triple Crown” accredited
The School of Business, Economics and Law is accredited by EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, and thus one of only about 135 business schools in the World that is “Triple Crown” accredited. Gaining accreditation revolves around ensuring the quality of education, research and collaboration with industry and society. The accreditation procedures are one of several important means for quality assurance and continuous development.
