Keynote speaker Rozalina Petrova, Member of the Cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Environment shared her insights on the topic “Green Recovery or going back to “Normal”?. European Commission is aware that it has a big role to play creating regulatory framework enabling digital and sustainable transition, building more resilient European Union that can be prosperous and reach its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Green Deal will play an important role in the economic recovery. Farm to Fork strategy aiming on making the the food system more healthy and sustainable as well as strategy to protect biodiversity have been launched last week and Circular Economy Action plan already in March 2020.

We were very honored to welcome the Nordic ambassadors to participate in this webinar giving short presentations about their respective country’s strategies and initiatives such as updated roadmap towards Circular Economy in Finland, commitment to electrification and product design in Norway, Circular Economy policy in Sweden and building two large green energy islands in Denmark.

Yesterday’s third and last webinar in the NordicCE2020 – What’s next series is summed up by these key takeaways:

Despite the challenging times of COVID-19 and related economic decline, we need tool ensure that the recovery on the EU level is focused on advancing digital and sustainable transition
European Commission is aware that it has a big role to play creating regulatory framework enabling such transition, building more resilient European Union that can be prosperous and reach its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050
The European Commission is busy putting together a plan to help the EU economy recover from the COVID-19 crisis and its release is planned for 27th May. It will also include various financial instruments, social tools and employment boost programs

With the NordicCE2020 – What’s Next The Nordic Chambers of Commerce in the Netherlands, the Nordic Embassies and the Representation in the Netherlands of the European Commission in collaboration with MissionC are very pleased to follow-up the successful NordicCE2020 Summit from Waste to Resource with a series of Webinars on What’s Next.

The whole world was making plans for the year 2020. So much vision for a sustainable world, so many plans to push Circular Economy. When we discussed Circular Economy during our annual Nordic Circular Economy Summit in February, the future seemed bright.

Rozalina Petrova

Rozalina Petrova is a Member of the Cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius where she works for accelerating the transition to a more circular economy. She joined the Directorate General for Environment of the European Commission in 2010 to develop the EU resource efficiency policy. In the period 2011 – 2015 she was also responsible for sustainable development, green jobs and mainstreaming of environmental policy in economic affairs. From 2015 to 2020 she worked on EU policies and legislation to increase the recycling of waste and its use as a valuable raw material. Before joining the European Commission, Rozalina’s duties were mainly in the field of social policy, including as Chief of Cabinet of the Bulgarian Minister of Labour and Social Policy and social attaché at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the EU.
