Today, December 13, it’s Lucia Day! The Lucia tradition is an old tradition that, alongside Midsummer, represents one of the foremost cultural traditions in Sweden.
Lucia is the bearer of light, and the celebrations reference life in the peasant communities of old: darkness and light, cold and warmth. The Lucia tradition includes an annual candlelit Lucia procession, dressed in white full-length gowns singing Lucia songs. Additionally, the celebrations often include lussekatter (saffron-flavored buns), and glögg (Swedish mulled wine).
